Unsatisfactory Conditions in Montreal Hospital

DRAFT

Quote of the day: "Can anybody be truly responsible for themselves before they have been deprogrammed?"

The following is a report of the conditions which existed where I was to undergo major surgery at hospital x in Montreal in September of 2012. During my stay there I had a major operation; a re-operation 24 hours after my primary surgery to correct a complication which resulted in a significant loss of haemoglobin and a possible significant drop in blood pressure: and a nine day stay at their facility for recuperation. That the condition of blood loss and possible blood pressure loss are nowhere to be found in the surgical notes is in itself a red flag. I was not to discover until I returned to Vancouver and had a blood test 14 days post-op that my haemoglobin was down from 142x to 99x and that this reading was such after two weeks from the initial incident is an indication of how much haemoglobin I lost from the initial incident until the reading of 99x. That this blood loss was not immediately rectified, i.e. by transfusion, is suspect at the very least.

Pre-existing conditions of neglect
  1. Care and prevention of pre-op constipation
  2. Pain management
  3. Safety
  4. Instructional materials
  5. Staff competency
  6. Accommodations
  7. Medical competence
The list above outlines the conditions under which I was to be subjected to during my stay at x hospital. The main complaint is that of a medical malfeasance and that I was not given the proper indicated treatment during a re-operation to correct a complication arising from my primary surgery. The condition I am suffering is posterior ischemic optic neuropathy. The indicated treatment for this condition is transfusion, which was apparently not given to me during my re-operation. The rest of the list outlines a prevailing atmosphere of incompetence, disregard and neglect.

It is my intention to pursue this matter legally. Due to the medical inattention to detail I may be blind for the rest of my life. This was not part of the deal.

Update Dec 14,12

Post op 11 weeks. many complications, including organizational pneumonia, bronchial infection, and optic nerve damage resulting in loss of 40 percent loss of vision including the ability to read. But the surgery looks great, haha. Silver lining: I may not be able to see well, but i am getting a whole new perspective on the world. Something like "now that i am blind, I can." and, I have finally figured out how to sing correctly. 45 years chasing that little devil so, even thought I have all these complications and such, my life is going is, really, really, well. I am achieving my dreams. It's quite a feeling.

Lasaga

Work in Progress - update, 17, 27, 28 October,6th Nov 2012 - nb
- this is stalled. I am having complications with my eyes at the moment, the focal points in each eye as it happens, making it diffifult to do stuff like this. I can see the world, just not the precise things I am looking at.

For those what don't know, I have been on an psychological treadmill since 1989, spanning some 20 odd years or so of incidental, occasional, directed and even focused therapy, concerning my 61 years of experience and the effect and consequences the chaotic and unstable circumstances of my childhood had on me and my ability to experience my reality directly, my feelings engaged and appropriate to the day. For most of my life, I have been disconnected from my feelings, one of the 'tragically hip,' to cool for school, and out of step with my reality, unable to interact emotionally on anything but a superficial level, gauging my 'reactions' externally, with no inner gauge save uncertainty. Basically I was either angry or waiting to be angry. A sociopath, incapable of empathy and/or spontaneous feelings, isolated, alone, and ultimately, confused. As of spring of 2010 and for a couple of years now, having made a breakthru regarding my anger/flight/fight mechanism, I believe I have been tapping directly into the emotional landscape of my very early childhood; experiencing first hand, long forgotten, dormant emotions that are now coming to the forefront of my psyche as I, the adult, am host, witness, and guardian to these emotions. And I, the adult, am watching as I become  'whole' in this regard, as I 'allow' these feeling from long ago to express themselves freely, and the yesterday me and the today me work in conjunction, forming, somehow, a new person in the doing. It's tricky, as I thread my way thru emotions that feel like they are 'now' but are actually from long ago. And I am learning how to experience these repressed feelings that overlay or underlay the present day scenarios without somehow 'identifying' with them too strongly, letting them happen as if they are their own entities, independent, yet connected. It seems to be working. I, the 'me' that everyone feels in themselves, am starting to experience my emotional reality now, and not like before, not hours from now, or days or even years from now. It's a very different game from the one I was playing before, spontaneous, unpredictable, scary in some regards, but it's powerful, and reassuring. I may be sad, or devastated, or upset, or even joyful, but at least now I feel like I am standing on firm ground, facing whatever is in my path with strength and conviction. My feelings, once a wasteland of depression, anger and uncertainty, are now signposts, guides, comforts that help me understand where I am in all of this. And I am no longer afraid.
Case in point. My recent surgery. I am now at home convalescing, post op 3 weeks or so. And a friend, my best friend, has made me lasagna. For my convalescence  Yum. Lasagna. I love lasagna. And I love her. Except now, she has thrown a wrench in to the matrix of our relationship. She has put spinach in the lasagna. Green, slimy, yucky spinach. All mixed in everywhere. And there is now a fly in my pasta pie. How can I look this gift horse in the mouth? And how could she do this to me? I did once extol the virtues of a store bought spinach spanicapizza that I was miraculously able to eat, once, a while ago. Perhaps she remembers that and has acted accordingly. But it doesn't matter. I am compromised by my surgery and the morphine I am on, and am weak and vulnerable, and in no way able to deal with this situation rationally. I am very emotional at this time, and so, angry, pissed off, conflicted, dejected. Bummed. I can't eat this. Never mind I haven't tried it. I can see the slimy green goo with my own two eyes, and I have food issues. Childhood food issues. Foods that I didn't like literally stuffed down my throat by a father who was pissed (and most definitely driven by his own childhood, wartime and family ghosts) that his son won't eat what is in front of him. Issues that I have been working on for years that still haunt me physiologically. Try rationalizing psychology to a gag reflex. Ha. And now, in my weakened state, my best friend, a surrogate mother on some levels, has joined the enemy, and is, in that 'gotta do it because to do otherwise is to insult' way, making me eat what I can not stomach.

And so the lasagna, a gift from this friend, meant to be a comfort and a help during my convalescence, sits in the fridge. Decomposing. A big pan of it. Drying out while I dither. What to do with it. I don't know, but I better do something soon or it will go bad, and I can't countenance that. A big waste, and a no no in my book. Days later I decide to try it. Cut a hunk of it out of the pan, heat it up in the toaster oven. Yumm, it sure smells good. Maybe it'll be OK  Maybe it's all in my hed. But no. It is what it is, regardless of whether or not it's in my hed. Spinach lasagna, the spinach dominating the lasagna like a bad, pseudo Mexican hot sauce on quality nosh. My stomach is revolting as my gorge rises. I can't eat it. But not to be defeatist, to not denigrate the gift of my friend, I try again, picking out all the spinach, which takes a while. And I lose a lot of the ricotta cheese too, cause it and the spinach have bonded, and won't be separated. Finally, I give it another go, cold, but sans spinach. And,... it's not bad. I can handle it. I think. Even like it, there are meatballs, even if every once in a while my taste buds snag on a tenacious piece of spinach yuck hiding in the yummy tomato sauce. I finish off the piece, somewhat satisfied if a tad exhausted by the ordeal, and cut up the rest of the pie, put it into separate containers, and put them in the fridge for later.

Days later again, in the fridge it sits. Untouched. Silent. My eyes avoid it when I'm making my peckish rounds, looking for the right thing. It's just so much hassle when all I want is to pop something yummy into the toaster oven for a quick bite. I bought the toaster oven specifically for that purpose, for this exact time, so that I wouldn't have to prepare or cook during my convalescence. So here I am, today, days later, hungry, feeling reasonably stable, looking for something easy to eat, and the lasagna finally catches my eye. I remember the meatballs, and the sauce. They were good, the pasta just right. So I go for it. Such is denial. Surely the spinach is not that bad. I place it in the oven, heat it up. Cautious, but days away from the initial tasting, smells good, and hoping that it will alright this time. I have confronted the enemy, and I have won. It will be OK.

Simultaneously, coincidentally, something else is bothering me. I have just had an email from a friend who hosts a "my mother's story" site where people talk about their mothers. Mostly, as far as I know, a site for loving, understanding, personal mom stories, and stories about mom that explain the discrepancies of the historians writing therein. Only I am having a problem with this concept. Because my mother left me, when I was 5. And rejected me henceforth. Not my sister, just me. And it seems to me that while the site is for 'understanding' and 'forgiving' moms, who, after all, had done their best, and were really only acting in their children's own best interests, even if we didn't understand their motivations at the time, the underlying concept is flawed. That it's all very fine this appreciate the bad mommy thing, but that in trying to understand our mother's story, our own stories can get minimized. Where's the site for 'our inner children,' or, 'who's going to stand up for child that once was?' And are we not somehow the traitors within as we conjure forth comforting images of women, who for better or worse, abandoned this little boy or that little girl in their times of need.

For I can now see that little boy that I once was, from a distance, just as clear as now I can see some stranger child on the street that is being mistreated or abused by a uncaring or abusive parent, I can see how that little boy was me, and how my mother mistreated me, betrayed me, rejected me even as I longed for her comforting touch in the face of my father's fury. I can look at that little boy and feel empathy for what he was going thru. And I, and the child within still long for our mother's touch. For she did touch me with comfort once. Even if it was only in the womb, and herself perhaps not as consciously committed to my well being as might be hoped for. For a brief time, I knew of a mother's touch. Of her warmth. Of her comfort. Of the caress of her inner most self. And on some level, I can feel that longing. Now. Here. Still.

So here I am, standing in front of this lasagna, this loving gift made for me for while I am infirm, convalescing, a gift well intentioned and good. Only this gift, made with love, this gift contains landmines; is a culinary war zone, ambivalence the heady spice of its component parts, and it is tearing me apart as I juggle the love and caring with the revulsion and abuse contained within. And as I stand, in the kitchen, this adult, as cognizant of my psychology and situation as anyone might be, and more than just some, I cry and blubber as I pull this lasagna apart, digging out the yucky bits so that I can eat the tattered, cooling remains. It's not supposed to happen this way; it's not fair, at least not from my inner toddler's point of view, and I am really sobbing now, grief stricken as I deal with the disgusting spinach which is keeping me from the comfort I need, all 61 years of me together now, in this moment, the anger and frustration and loss and indignation of years of repression and untoward circumstance protesting this offending pie, tears streaming from my eyes as I pick thru the culinary rubble. No mom to hug me and make me feel better as she 'fixes' everything so that I can eat without fear that some slimy green yucky thing will attack my throat and send me puking to the bathroom. And it's just too much for my vulnerable state, and so I stand there, alone, defeated, sobbing, as I stare blankly at the bloody, pasty remains lying before me.

So what's the point? This is me. Emotionally. Down to the very bottom of my psyche, or at least as far as I have been able to dig. There is no uncertainty here. No act being put on to manipulate or deceive. This is how I feel, and these are my feelings, and I know what is going on here. Here, I am, if not the expert, at least the source. They say that there is nothing certain in life, but for me, this is certainty. I am what is going on here, and I can feel it all the way down. As John Lennon says in "God," "I just believe in me, Yoko and me, And that's reality" And for me, that's certainty. And for a person who for 50 yerrs or so had no idea what I felt, that is something.

That part of me that first felt this, the 'inner child,' the repressed and forgotten 'inner child' that lurks beneath the surface of my everyday adult life, my adult 'persona,' and that latches on to any present day situation that will give it some form of vent, that part of me is finally free to hurt. And hurt it does, no matter that I am an adult and 'know' what it is that I am experiencing, knows an abreaction from a hawk or a handsaw. It hurts all of me. Because it is pain, pure and simple, pain from days gone by perhaps, but pain that is part of my experience today, now, with that sabotaging lasagna pie and the spinach that has come back to haunt me. And I have now experienced it, felt it, acknowledged it, let it do what it needs to do so that I can move on and deal with my situation with all the cards face up on the table. Will I eat spinach now. Who knows. But at least the spinach now stands a chance, for now, I am open to the experience.

Working Title: The making and break of a socio/psycho/path

Introduction (This is a work in progress. updated sept 03, 12, nb - update Nov 11'12).

Thesis - Sociopaths are by nature, nurtured. Thais is, given a select few abberations of human nauter, sociopaths are a culteral phenonemon, products of their various environments.

This is mostly about nurture. I was a basic kid. The tabla was maybe special, but definitely rasa. I was put under extreme stresses which had a negative impact upon me, and at around age nine, the stresses now intolerable, I disassociated. This was the foundation and beginning of my sociopathic tendancies. At age 39, I had a transformational experience, "The Event," which exposed the disassociated parts of my self. Still exhibiting characteristics of sociopathy, I began to work on myself, and over time, did indeed start to put humpty back together again, and in a less sociopathic way. At age 60, all the work I did on myself came together and I individuated, moving from a sociopathic model to a differentiated, self actualized, socially responsible ex narcissistic model. What follows is just notes working on this idea. Sorry for the mess. Don't know if I will get back to this. I seem to have moved on. Heded somewhere but not sure where yet.
  • In these pages, I am going to explore, in the main, Identity. I.e., what I think that is?
  • This will also be a discussion of
    • Antisocial Personality Disorder vs Sociopathy vs Psychopathy
      • Behavior patterns (ASPD) vs "social factors?" (Sociopathy) vs "personality characteristics?" (psychop)
      • "Sociopathy is also distinct from ASPD as well as psychopathy. Hare writes that the difference between sociopathy and psychopathy may "reflect the user's views on the origins and determinates of the disorder." The term sociopathy may be preferred by sociologists that see the causes as due to social factors. The term psychopathy may be preferred by psychologists who see the causes as due to a combination of psychological, genetic, and environmental factors." "wikipedia" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisocial_personality_disorder#Psychopathy_and_sociopathy )
      • How they apply to me
        • ASPD
          • As a general diagnosis, I sit well within this type, although in terms of the destinction of behavioral vs social causes, think I move easily out of this catagory and into the next, i.e. sociopathy
          • Irresponsibility - up until 'the event,' I had no real concept of responsibility. Going nowhere fast, fake my responsbilities (soil checker et al),
          • manipulative - always looking for a way to get what I want other than directly - until the event, I didn't know how to ask. That's one of the reasons I stole
          • Criminal behavior - extreme kleptomania - stole from everyone, everywhere, B&E's (mostly related to cross dressing), drugs (some selling, mostly user, not addicted,
          • pathalogical liar - lied extremely and to everybody - i grew up in a house of liars - it was 'normal.'
          • Affect? What is this? Tragically hip?
          • Failure to conform to social norms - in spades, i.e. dress (biker/loner)
          • Irritability - bad temper, impulsive, angry. Directed most of my anger to things - was unable to
          • (DSM) Reckless disregard for the safety of self or others - especially on a motorcycle, reckless in the extreme
          • (DSM) Lack of remorse after having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another person - mostly stealing, but in 'relationships,' did not have any idea of how I was hurting someone
        • Sociopathy
          • "Sociopathy is chiefly characterized by something wrong with the person's conscience. They either don't have one, it's full of holes like Swiss cheese, or they are somehow able to completely neutralize or negate any sense of conscience or future time perspective. Sociopaths only care about fulfilling their own needs and desires - selfishness and egocentricity to the extreme. Everything and everybody else is mentally twisted around in their minds as objects to be used in fulfilling their own needs and desires. They often believe they are doing something good for society, or at least nothing that bad. The term "sociopath" is frequently used by psychologists and sociologists alike in referring to persons whose unsocialized character is due primarily to parental failures (usually fatherlessness) rather than inherent features of temperament. However, this may only describe the "common sociopath", as there are at least four (4) different subtypes -- common, alienated, aggressive, and dyssocial. Commons are characterized mostly by their lack of conscience; the alienated by their inability to love or be loved; aggressives by a consistent sadistic streak; and dyssocials by an ability to abide by gang rules, as long as those rules are the wrong rules."  http://www.angelfire.com/zine2/narcissism/antisocial_sociopath_psychopath.html
          • I identify with this type the most so far, in terms of parental 'failures' and with regard to the alienated and dyssocial subtypes. In my case, inability to love or be loved, and dyssocial in my dysability to be 'a team player.'
          • Egocentricity - to an extreme, and in terms of pre vs post "event," dysfunctionally so. Whereas now, I am still egocentric, as in 'individuated,' this reflected in my new ability to work well within a social construct.
          • Exaggerated Sexuality - hmmm, this is a tricky one, in that I had the 'just wanna fuck, get into her pants and get the fuck out of there' thing, and I  have the transsexual thing going on. This needs to be developed
          • Callousness - no feelings, pre 'event,' so therefore, no feelings for others. Just didn't know how to relate that way. This is connected to empathy it seems, although maybe that's why empathy is listed in psychopathy and not sociopathy, because empathy would be a personality trait I would think. \
          • Impulsivity - this carries over from ASPD, and was definitely part of my makeup, although where impulsivety turns from good to bad I am not sure. Good to be quick - I am, but I guess when one's impulses get carried away to the detriment of others, one has a problem. I did, and to some degree, still do, although in a changed way which I am not sure about yet.
        • Psychopathy
          • This is where the rubber hits the road I think. "... criminals and APDs tend to "age out" of crime; psychopaths do not, and are at high risk of recidivism." I guess this is where the rubber hits the road. it is my contention that had 'the event' happened, I would have continued on my 'merry' way and would be, one way or another, and not intentionally, ded by now. One could even say that that happened already, and it is only by way of fate that I am not, not having finished whatever it is that I am suppossed to do here, as hokey and 'spiritual' as that may be. Whaddo I know anyway?
    • Manic Depression,
    • Transsexuality
      • Homosexual Transsexuals
      • Autogynephilia
  • How do ASPD, sociopathy, and psychology apply to me? Or better yet, what components of these catagories do not apply to me?

Terminology, definitions, discussions.

Identity
  • Psychological catagories/caste system
    • The degree to which one is capable of 'psychological sophistication.' Psychological sophistication marks the degree to which one can maintain identity ability to move beyond conventional forms of identification and maintain one's sense of self. What is identity? What is consciousness? What is it that gives us our sense of self?
Normal
  • 'Normal' is a social, cultural construct, and as such, describes the wide, middle of the road swath of individuals who interact more or less positively within their respective communities. It is the set of individuals who fall outside this swath that are marked with special designations such as sociopath etc.
Personality Disorders
  • " ...personality disorders are defined by experiences and behaviors that differ from societal norms and expectations.  Those diagnosed with a personality disorder may experience difficulties in cognition, emotiveness, interpersonal functioning or control of impulses. " - Wikipedia,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personality_disorder
Socio vs Psycho  - in here I dissect the two terms, and come up with a working definition.
  • Sociopaths are a product of environment, psychopaths a product of nature?
  • Psychopaths are criminal, sociopaths not so much?
  • Sociopaths are those not in harmony with their society. Psychopaths are, by definition, none existent, because without a society there is no 'norm, and in the cosmic game of evolution, anything goes.
The Making - This outlines the first nine years of my life leading to my disassociation, or splitting off.

The life of a psycho/socio/path - this describes, in detail, how I conform to the definitions set above

The Breaking - this describes the event, and the things that come on line as my psyche unfolds to my suicide

Self Actualization and Beyond - this describes the final steps, including PTSD, Flight Fight, Anger Management, RLE, and individuation/self actualization

Epilogue

Notes etc:
My formative years took place in a war zone. Several war zones actually. My parents took 6 years to finalize their incompatability, subjecting my sister and I to all manner of discord and strife. I became the problem, after they split up, and stood in for my mother as my fathers whipping post. Then, shipped off to live with our grandparents, I got to experience first hand what my father went thru at the hands of his father. Softened by time and age to be sure, but visceral enough by far. By the time my step mother entered the picture, I was a dissociated, angry, and disaffected youth with bipolar tendencies and extreme personality disorders. I was a sociopath by the time I was eleven: A pathalogical liar, a kleptomaniac, anger ridden, glib and likable enough, manipulative, dissociated and disaffected, I was a card carrying sociopath by the time I was eleven. My step-mother didn't stand a chance in my heart. That was locked down by my stunted and neglected need for my mother.

Gregarious by nature, anti-social by nurture, I was the kid you liked but avoided because you never knew which way I would turn, from agreeable and interesting to troublesome and unpredictable. Having no positive role models during these formative years, especially in the areas of empathy and love (my aunt Rosalie and Edna, one of my father's girlfriends, were the exceptions, our interactions all too brief); intelligent and gregarious enough; I matured into a classic example of a young sociopath, pleasant enough on the surface, but incapable of love and deeper emotional intelligence. In 1989, I experienced a life changing moment I call "The Event," when I re-associated internally with all that I had been disconected from. From this point on, I found myself unwittingly on the path of self actualization, hopping from this therapy to that theray, from self help groups to individual counselling, as I tried to untangle the spagetti like gordian knot that was my psyche.

Fortunately for me, I was into drugs. I say fortunately because I believe that it was partially because of my drug use that I was able

Antisocial personality disorders
  •  " Research suggests that, “psychopaths are a stable proportion of any population, can be from any segment of society, may constitute a distinct taxonomical class forged by freqncy-dependent natural selection, and that the muting of the social emotions is the proximate mechanism that enables psychopaths to pursue their self-centered goals without felling the pangs of guilt. Sociopaths are more the products of adverse environmental experiences that affect autonomic nervous system and neurological development that may lead to physiological responses similar to those of psychopaths. Antisocial personality disorder is a legal/clinical label that may be applied to both psychopaths and sociopaths” (Walsh & Wu, 2008).  In his book,Without Conscience, Robert Hare states that the difference between psychopathy and sociopathy ”reflects on the origins and determinates of each.”
    • The difference one of whom either type will offend against, the psychopath universal in approach to crime or anti-social behavior, while the sociopath has scruples towards friends and family members. I was universal in my anti social behaviors, in this case, subscribing to pathological.
    • Sociopathy
    • Psychopathy
  • Etiology (causation)
Personality
  • defined psychologically, is the set of enduring behavioral and mental traits that distinguish human beings (from one another).
    • behavioral traits
    • mental traits

Individuation and Self Actualization
  • Individuation
    • Differentiation

Empathy

  • nature or nurture. Apparently, one of the distinctions perhaps between sociopathy and psychopathy is that the latter is deemed genetic, or at least, physical in nature, whereas sociopathy is deemed an issue of nurture.
  • I connect the late development of my empathy to the experience I had when I first was able to look at the young child I had been and empathize with it as though I was someone else. I remember this clearly, in aug/sept of 2007. I was able to look at my past self like that little boy was someone else, and feel sorry for what he was going thru, much like I would do today if I were to see another child being treated the way I was.
  • Empathy is a facet of the human makeup. However, it is like reading, and writing, and talking. It has to be nurtured, and practiced in order for one to develop it into the tool that is can be.
Before and After, relative to socio and psychopathological profiles. This refers to 'The Event' in 1989, when I was 38, and how my behavior changed after I re-associated.
  • Before
    • Guilt. Especially with regard to theft and lying, and risky behaviour, I had no guilt or shame. Only in the matter of sex and cross dressing did these mechanisms have any traction
  • After

Path / Vocation

I use the term 'vocation' or path to mean something that one is 'called' to, much as it was a religious term, and somewhat deterministic philosophically. By this, however, I mean that when follows one's true path, one's life becomes effortless as long as one stays on that path. And the way to tell one is on one's path is to pursue that path that has the least resistance, whatever that means personally.

I consider myself to have stumbled upon the path that I am meant to be on. It takes the form of the work I am doing at Qmunity. I have been on several paths in my life, but these have not been paths so much as trails I have wandered thru as I stumbled my way in life.

This path is vocational. And one of the qualities of this path that tells me it is vocational is that everything I do on it, regardless of my manic depressive... state, seems to fall into place without the slightest effort on my part other than me complying with the opportunities that are presented to me as choices. All the other fields of endeavor I have pursued in my life have been, for the most part, strewn with strife, uncertainty and resistance.

For the most part, my time at Qmunity has been a necklace of positive events, marked by a personal enjoyment of the work I do there. I have written for Qmunity; attained a positive reputation there; have become somewhat of a face of Qmunity; have recently completed a year of facilitating a support/social group with Qmunity and am now embarking on starting a support/social trans group (24/7+), and have recently been named 'Volunteer of the Month' at Qmunity. All organically, with no effort other than the effort it takes to participate in something that one likes or loves doing. And it is by these qualities that I realize that I am doing the 'right' thing in my life. Gone are all the other  trails and byways that I was pursuing, paths that were uncertain and ate away at my self esteem. I am now on this path, whatever it it, guided by a blind trust in the process of following this path wherever it may lead.

Gone fishin'

Aug '12. This blog is mostly down for now, due to (manic) depression.

in response to: How are you

I'm still wallowing in the annual slew of my own despond, managing this year however to maintain a skeletal schedule at Qmunity, an LGBTQ resource center where I am a receptionist, keep the apartment reasonably clean (with help), feed the cat, eat too many carbos; and not much else, either way. Not very outgoing internally speaking, so lots of screen and bed time. It is, however, just possible that I am starting to come out of it, this email being one of the (I think) growing number of signs that I may be on the way up and out of the cloying depths of that odious slew which has been constant these last few months. Think of me as trudging thru a dark, sombre terrain, its medium molasses-like on my body, the daily strain and toil of navigating its depths sucking the very life out of me. Possibly, hopefully, having perhaps traversed the deepest, darkest and dankest part, the nadirs of my despondency and desolation, I am now lethargically and dejectedly slogging my way up the other side, the treacherous and uneven terrain beneath my leaden feet deceptively graduated with dips, hollows, and rises, allowing me to break the surface now and again for a brief glimpse of sunlight/hope/happiness before I find myself once more submerged beneath stagnant waves of doubt, despair and depression. Pressing loathsomely on, nauseated, leaning, or rather almost falling over into the thick morass of despair which surrounds me, I haul my dejected and tired ass once more forward towards the distant, sunlit shore of my 'manic' self. More or less.
